SPRINGFIELD, IL – April 16, 2008 –
Bryce Shafer, Andrew Quinnette, and Matt Lenski will be
heading to Springfield this summer to play baseball for the
Sliders. Currently, all three are playing for Valparaiso
University in Indiana. The Sliders open their inaugural
season at Robin Roberts Stadium on June 5th.
Shafer is a 6’0” right-handed pitcher
from Wabash, Indiana. As a freshman he is leading the Valpo
pitching staff in games started (8) and innings pitched
(45). He carries a 1-3 record and an ERA of 5.80. Opposing
hitters have struggled against Shafer this spring and are
hitting only .244 against the righty.
Quinnette, a 6’1” pitcher / infielder,
is also in his freshman year at Valpo. He has spent the
majority of his time at first base for the Crusaders and has
started 23 out of a possible 30 games. He is third on the
team with 16 runs batted in. His solid defense will be an
asset to the Sliders as he currently has a .988 fielding
percentage at Valpo.
Lenski is a 5’11” junior catcher who
spent last season at Madison Area Technical College in
Wisconsin. He hit .368 as a sophomore for the Wolfpack.
The Milwaukee, Wisconsin native has started 21 games for
Valpo this spring and he is fifth on the team with 10 RBI.
The Springfield Sliders are a member of the Central Illinois
Collegiate League, a college wood bat summer league
featuring players from across the country. The Sliders 2008
home opener is Thursday, June 5th at 7:05 PM
