Sliders Hold Off Danville's 9th Inning Rally

June 15, 2008

SPRINGFIELD, IL – June 15, 2008 – Danville put six runs on the scoreboard in the 9th inning but it was not enough to complete the comeback in Springfield as the Sliders won 11-8.  Kaskaskia Community College's Logan Mahon earned his first win of the season going six innings and striking out three.  The Sliders were led offensively by Andrew Quinnette's three-hit performance and multiple hit days by Elliott Soto, Chris Gacom and Jimmy Swift.

The Sliders took the lead, and never relinquished it, in the 3rd inning when Gacom drove in Soto with a double to left center.  Gacom later scored on triple by Quinnette.  In the 5th the Sliders sent 11 batters to the plate.  The seven run inning gave them the cushion they needed to survive Danville's 9th inning rally.

In the 6th, Vincente Cafaro hit an inside-the-park homerun to right center.  The throw from the relay man was accurate to the plate but Cafaro's hustle and head-first slide gave the Sliders their 11th run of the night.  That run ultimately allowed the game to end with the tying run at the plate instead of the go-ahead run.

Danville was led offensively by Dan Kaczrowski's three hits and Drew Haynes and Pollack's multi-hit performances.  Danville took advantage of 13 walks by the Sliders' pitching staff in their comeback efforts.  Danville stroked five singles and earned two walks in the 9th.  Florida Atlantic's Dan Marcacci earned the final two outs for the Sliders and his second save of the season.
