SPRINGFIELD, IL – June 19, 2008 –
The Springfield Sliders swept a
double-header from DuBois County Thursday night 5-1 and 12-0
in front of 1,611 fans at Robin Roberts Stadium. The
Sliders were led in both games by dominent pitching
performances by Jonas Dufek and Brandon Knowling. Dufek
went the distance and only allowed one run, which was
unearned. Knowling tossed six innings in the nightcap. The
junior from IPFW struck out eight Bombers and walked one.
Lucas Kesterson threw a scoreless 7th inning to complete the
sweep.
Offensively in game one the Sliders were led by Elliott
Soto's three hits and Andrew Quinnette's double and single.
Denny Vaughn also stroked a double for the Sliders in their
game one victory. The Bombers managed four hits off of
Dufek highlighted by Zach Rowles double.
In game two, the Sliders first got on the scoreboard in the
3rd inning. They put up three runs in the third frame led
by Chris Gacom's lead off triple. The Sliders put up five
more runs in the 4th inning on five hits and two DuBois
County errors.
Game two saw multi-hit performances from Vaughn (4), Gacom
(3) and Soto (3). Gacom finished the night with three RBI
while Vaughn and Vincente Cafaro knocked in two apiece. T.J.
Dailey had two hits for the Bombers and Eddie Cassidy laced
a double.
The Sliders will follow the Bombers back to DuBois County as
they will complete a four-game series with games on Friday
and Saturday in southern Indiana. Springfield Sliders
