SPRINGFIELD, IL – June 23, 2008 –
The Springfield Sliders (12-3) upped their winning streak to
six in front of a crowd of 2,021 tonight with a 5-1 victory
over the Quicy Gems (7-7). Bryce Butt threw seven strong
innings giving up only one run while scattering six hits.
The Garden City Community College right-hander struck out
four and didn't walk a Quincy batter.
The Sliders struck early, scoring three runs in the first
inning on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Quinnette and a two-out
two RBI single up the middle by Chris Gacom. Springfield
put two more on the board in the 5th with the help of a
RBI double off of the bat of Denny Vaughn and a Colby
Luttrell RBI single. Tyler Choate came in to pitch a
perfect 8th and 9th to seal the win for the Sliders. Quincy
was led offensively by Justin Dunning's 2-3
night including a RBI double plateing Alex Acheson after he
himself had a double.
The Gems and Sliders will take the battle to the banks of
the Mississippi as the same two teams faceoff again tomorrow
in Quincy.
The Sliders are home again on Monday, June 30 when they
again take on Quincy. The first 500 kids, 12 and under,
will receive a free hot dog and soda. Game time is 7:05
p.m. On July 2, the Sliders will be celebrating with their
Pre 4th of July Fireworks Celebration! There will be a
Post-game, All-American Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by
County Market. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
