Sliders Win Franchise's First Game

June 6, 2008

SPRINGFIELD, IL – June 6, 2008 – The Springfield Sliders won their franchise opener Thursday night 7-3 in front of a great crowd of 1850 people.  Bryce Butt got the team's first start and gave the Sliders 6 strong innings on the hill striking out 7 in six innings.  Dan Marcacci came in relief in the 7th and shut down the Gems for the teams first win of the season.

Offensively Quincy struck first in the first with 2 runs on a RBI single by Muller and and a sac fly by Meyers.  Springfield answered with three of their own in the bottom of the frame with 3 hits and aggressive baserunning.  The two pitchers then settled in.  Quincy's Hillhake only gave up only 3 hits in the next 5 1/3 innings when he left the game for a relief pitcher with one out in the bottom of the 7th and the game tied 3-3.  The Sliders' bats then came alive.  Bo Kinder started the fireworks with the franchise's first homerun over the right field wall and the Sliders never looked back.  The night was then capped off by Denny Vaughn's homerun to right center field in the bottom of the eighth to seal the deal for Springfield.
