SPRINGFIELD, IL – July 18, 2008 – The
Springfield Sliders won 3-2 over the Quincy Gems in their
fourth extra inning game in six days Friday at Springfield.
Pitching was the name of the game with Springfield's Jonas
Dufek giving the Sliders 7 strong innings giving up only 2
runs on 5 hits while striking out 7. The Sliders Charlie
Gordon then kept zeros on the scoreboard for three more
innings until Springfield eventually plated the winning run
in the bottom of the 10th. Ryan Ashe drew a bases loaded
walk to drive in the winning run in front of 1,348
Springfield fans.
Springfield's Ryan Mooney and Quincy's Oliver Palmer both
smacked two-run homeruns. Mooney's came in the fourth and
Palmer stroked his in the sixth. Palmer and teammate Alex
Acheson had two hits apiece for the Gems. Tyler Choate was
the only Slider with multiple hits.
Springfield heads to Lisle to play DuPage in a 6:30 CDT
doubleheader. Quincy is idle.
The Sliders are home again on July 24 when they host DuBois
County. The 24th is Ladies Night and Throw Cancer a
Curveball. $1.00 for each ticket purchased at the gate will
be donated to fight cancer. Specials for the ladies all
night, plus post-game ladies run the bases.
