July 18, 2008

SPRINGFIELD, IL – July 18, 2008 – The Springfield Sliders won 3-2 over the Quincy Gems in their fourth extra inning game in six days Friday at Springfield.  Pitching was the name of the game with Springfield's Jonas Dufek giving the Sliders 7 strong innings giving up only 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 7.  The Sliders Charlie Gordon then kept zeros on the scoreboard for three more innings until Springfield eventually plated the winning run in the bottom of the 10th.  Ryan Ashe drew a bases loaded walk to drive in the winning run in front of 1,348 Springfield fans.

Springfield's Ryan Mooney and Quincy's Oliver Palmer both smacked two-run homeruns.  Mooney's came in the fourth and Palmer stroked his in the sixth.  Palmer and teammate Alex Acheson had two hits apiece for the Gems.  Tyler Choate was the only Slider with multiple hits.

Springfield heads to Lisle to play DuPage in a 6:30 CDT doubleheader.  Quincy is idle.

The Sliders are home again on July 24 when they host DuBois County.  The 24th is Ladies Night and Throw Cancer a Curveball.  $1.00 for each ticket purchased at the gate will be donated to fight cancer.  Specials for the ladies all night, plus post-game ladies run the bases.
