SPRINGFIELD, IL – July 2, 2008 –
On Fireworks Night in
Springfield the Sliders (18-4) exploded to score four runs
in the third inning highlighted by a Vincente Cafaro solo
homerun off of the scoreboard in left center. It was just
enough as the Sliders held on to beat the Dragons 4-3 in
front of 1,853 Sliders' fans. Cafaro finished the night
with three hits. It was the only multi-hit performance for
the Sliders.
Bryce Shafer earned his fourth win of the year. The
Valparaiso freshman struck out 10 Dragons and walked two.
Brandon Knowling came on in relief of Brent Kulavic after
Kulavic was removed due to injury. Knowling tossed three
scoreless innings en route to his first save of the season.
Phil Wunderlich was red hot for the Dragons (10-10). The
University of Louisville product stroked three hits in as
many at-bats including a second inning double. Pete Capetta
and Nick Popescu rapped two hits apiece for the Dragons
The Sliders are idle for then next two days and will travel
to Quincy on Saturday. DuPage will stay on the road as they
travel to DuBois for a 7:30 EDT game tomorrow.
Springfield will play their next home game on July 7 when
they host the Danville Dans. That game is Free Cash
Giveaway Night. The first 500 fans will receive an envelope
filled with case from $1 to $20. On July 11, the Sliders
will have Jimmy Buffet Night presented by Lickins Brand
Bar-b-cue products & Dutch Farm Cheese. The first 500 fans,
21 and over, will receive a free can coozie. $2.00
Landsharks & Cheeseburgers all night long. Post-game
fireworks will pre presented by United Brotherhood of
Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local No. 16.
