SPRINGFIELD, IL – July 24, 2008 – The
Dubois County Bombers beat the Springfield Sliders 11-2
Thursday night at Springfield in front of a crowd of 1098.
Springfield got on the board first, in the 3rd, scoring
their only 2 runs on ground outs by Ryan Ashe and Vicente
Cafaro. Dubois countered in the top of the 4th with 4 of
their own to take the lead for good. Then in the top of the
5th the Bombers put the game out of reach sending 11 batters
to the plate scoring 7. The inning was highlighted with
doubles by Mike Schwartz, Kevin Gillespie, and Sam Konnoff and
capped off with a two-run homer to left by Wes Fink.
Konnoff, Fink, and Schwartz all had three hits for Dubois.
Dubois' Chad Edwards pitched well, earning the
victory, going 8 innings allowing only 2 Slider runs.
Dubois hosts Quincy Friday game time 7:30 pm CDT.
Springfield is idle on Friday and hosts Madison in an
exhibition game Saturday at Robin Roberts Stadium. This
night is also Mini Sliders Bat Giveaway. The first 500
kids, 12 and under, will receive a free mini bat. It is
also 'Windy City' Night. $2.00 Admission for fans wearing
Chicago Cubs or Chicago White Sox apparel. Game time is
7:05 pm and gates open at 6:05 pm.
NOTE: Springfield pitcher Bryce Shafer left the game in the
top of the 3rd inning with a pulled hamstring. He is
day-to-day.
