SPRINGFIELD, IL – July 27, 2008 – The
Quincy Gems defeated the Springfield Sliders 6-3 Sunday in
Springfield. Timely hitting and good pitching led the way
for the Gems. Jon Meyers hit his league leading 11th home
run of the season and Andy Petz had 2 RBI to lead the way
offensively for Quincy. Gems starter Shane Zegarac went 6
innings scattering 6 hits and allowed only 2 Slider runs.
The Sliders were led offensively by Ryan Mooney's 2 hits
including a triple and Andrew Quinnette's 9th inning home
run.
The Sliders return to Robin Roberts Stadium Saturday against
the Danville Dans. It is Speedy Bobblehead Night presented
by the Springfield Parks Department. The first 500 fans
receive free bobblehead dolls of the Sliders mascot. Gates
open at 6:05 with first pitch at 7:05.
