SPRINGFIELD, IL – July 7, 2008 –
Danville (10-13) exploded for five runs in the second inning
but the Sliders (20-4) scored four runs in the third and
sixth innings and wound up defeating the Dans 8-7. Charlie
Gordon earned his first win of the season in relief of
starter Brian Behnke. The junior from Shepherd University
kept the Sliders in the game with 4 1/3 innings of work.
Andrew Quinnette relieved Gordon in the seventh and then
gave way to Tyler Choate with the tying run on second base
and two outs. Choate got Brooks Kimmey to ground out to
earn his fifth save of the season.
Elliot Soto and Ryan Ashe had two hits apiece to lead the
Sliders. Left fielder Denny Vaughn blasted a two-out, bases
loaded triple to spark the Sliders gradual comeback.
The Dans were led by Andrew Pollack and Rich Goodenow. Each
of them roped two hits at Robin Roberts Stadium. Brenden
Watson and Drew Haynes each blasted a double and had two RBI
on the night.
The Sliders finished the first half of the season tonight
while the Dans still have one more game in the first half
remaining. Springfield is idle tomorrow but will travel to
DuBois County on Wednesday for a 7:30 EDT game in southern
Indiana. The Dans will play at DuBois County tomorrow in
Huntingburg. Game time is 7:30 EDT.
The Sliders are at home again on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
of this week. Friday is Jimmy Buffet Night where the first
500 fans, 21 and over, will receive a can coozie. Saturday
is Team Poster Night where the first 750 fans will receive a
free Sliders team poster. Sunday is County Market Family
Fun Days. The first 400 kids will receive free ice cream.
The Sliders will also be hosting their Free Baseball Clinic
and Autograph Session from 4-5 p.m. on Sunday. Each
participating baseball player will receive a complimentary
ticket to that nights game. Friday and Saturday's games
begin at 7:05 and Sunday's game begins at 6:05. Gates open
one hour prior to first pitch.
